It has taken a while, but I have eventually discovered the identity of the other signatory whose handwritten autograph appears on the Herm £1 Coupons (G500). It is that of George Lister who was Secretary and Accountant of Herm.

George’s wife Pat was a friend of Jenny Wood and had been since they both served together in the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (F.A.N.Y) during WWII in Buckinghamshire. After Jenny and Alexander George (Peter) Wood had taken over the Tenancy of Herm in 1949, Pat Lister wrote to offer their services. In Jenny Wood’s book “Herm Our Island Home”, she described her friendship with Pat and how the Listers, their two children and cat moved from their mundane St John’s Wood life in London to their new surroundings on Herm. However, she failed to mention George and Pat’s surname.

Searching of available records failed to find the name and it wasn’t discovered until I watched a copy of a BBC live broadcast from Herm, filmed in 1958, when George Lister appeared and was introduced, by name and responsibility, in the first few minutes.
