On 31 July 2024, I was contacted by William (Billy) McCreath, who kindly shared with me images of two photographic essays of G253, the Guernsey £1 note issued between 1969 and 1972. The reverse essay was identical to that published on page 311 of GPM. However, Billy’s essay of the obverse was different in several respects to that illustrated on page 312 of GPM. Firstly, the inclusion of the six-digit (specimen) serial number; the addition of “THE STATES OF GUERNSEY” and presence of the signature of Louis Auguste Guillemette in facsimile form. I believe this to be a slightly later progressive iteration of the photographic essay illustrated on Page 312 that is dated 4th March 1968. Exactly why, unlike the States of Jersey, Guernsey chose, at that time, not to incorporate an image of Queen Elizabeth II is not fully understood and will be the subject of further research.
